Make That Dim Mac Bright Again!
If you own an Apple MacBook (original or Apple MacBook Retina versions), Apple MacBook Air, Apple MacBook Pro or an Apple MacBook Neo and it has a dim screen or a dull screen, you’re probably expecting the worst. Actually, it might not be that bad!
The good news is that if your display isn’t actually cracked or physically damaged, it might not need expensive replacement at all!
If you have a dim screen where you can still make out the image under bright light, but it isn’t lit up, this usually means one of two things:-
- Either the backlight itself is broken. This is a part of the screen itself and typically needs a new screen.
- Or… There’s a problem with the circuit that drives the backlight rather than the backlight itself. This means that it’s the backlight circuit that needs repaired, not the screen.
Here’s the good news. Our technician reports that the vast majority of backlight problems he sees are due to problems with the driver circuit and not the backlight/screen itself. (This includes faulty inverter circuits on the oldest models and similar problems on newer ones).
This means that in most cases our customers won’t need to pay for a whole new screen.
Another common fault is a faulty switch or sensor, where the computer thinks the laptop is closed and turns off the screen to save power. Again, this is much cheaper to fix than an entire screen replacement.

Of course, if your backlight circuit is faulty, you still need a company whose technicians have the skills to carry out board-level “microsoldering” repairs on your MacBook.
