Another iPhone Rescued from a Dubious Repair

This is an iPhone 6 that we repaired on behalf of another store in the area. It was having problems with blue screens, and there were lines on the display.

When we took a closer look through our microscope, it was obvious that the Touch IC (the chip which deals- unsurprisingly- with touch and similar input to the display) was cracked. We also noticed small balls of solder on the board- not generally a sign that would inspire confidence in the skills of the person who worked on it.

It’s clear that either the motherboard has been massively overheated by a technician who really didn’t understand what they were doing, or it had been dropped from a significant height on to a hard surface.

Fortunately, after we’d replaced the Touch IC and removed the extraneous solder from the board, it worked fine again.
