Apple couldn’t fix his iMac – We Could! (27″ iMac A1419 (2015) with 5K Retina LCD)
By Disc Depot In Repair ProcessWe recently had the pleasure of repairing this Apple in our Dundee store. It’s a 2015 model iMac with Retina display. While some versions of the iMac with Retina came with a 21.5″ display, this one includes the top-of-the-range 27″ screen, and it’s a beauty!
Nice, blazing fast 3.1 GHz Core i5 processor as you’d expect, 8 GB of RAM, Radeon graphics, 1 TB SATA hard drive, FaceTime HD camera… the list goes on, but we have to stop there!
Anyway, the customer in question had already taken this to the Apple Store who made some unusual claims, including that some screws were missing inside (implying that it had been previously repaired) and that the hard drive was blank. This surprised the customer, who’d bought it brand new, and had never had it fixed (or even opened) previously. He was also concerned about his valuable data on the “blank” drive.
Worst of all, Apple told him that it couldn’t be repaired- end of story. Given that this particular model cost approaching £2000 when it was new, this was rather bad news! Therefore we (as an independent and unbiased repair centre) were commissioned by the customer to look into what the state of the machine actually was.
When we opened it up, there were no signs of any screws missing, and no signs of it having been previously worked on. However, we could see that the screen obviously wasn’t working, and the customer asked us to repair that.
The customer was also concerned about their valuable data, and we were pleased to be able to inform him that not only was it safe and intact, but that we’d also been able to fully back it up for him.
To tell the truth, we’re not entirely sure why Apple thought what they did- but we do know that we were certainly able to fix it and help the customer with their problem!

Can you only change the screen? I have that imac with 2 black dots that annoy me, but they are back in the white zone, that there is possibility to repair only that?

Unfortunately, we regret that it’s not possible to repair imperfections like that without replacing the entire LCD screen panel itself.
