iOS 8- Finally Here, Any Good?
By DD Tech In UncategorizedAlong with the expected new iPhones, the latest version of iOS- the operating system for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch lines- is here.
In design terms, it doesn’t look that much different to iOS 7, keeping the newer “flat” appearance that 7 had. (This, of course, replaced the glossy “3D” look of iOS 6- something that looked fantastic when its sibling OS X first appeared all these years ago- and still does- but was tending towards being an overused cliche by that time).
At the time of writing, we haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but the new features seem to tend more towards the generally useful rather than radical.
Does the new Health application sound exciting to you, and what do you think the possibilities are once third parties get their hands on the development framework and expanding Health’s capabilities?
Perhaps you’re already keen to upgrade and want to know if this latest iOS 8 will work on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
To cut a long story short, it works on the iPhone from the iPhone 4S onwards (sorry iPhone 4 owners), the iPod Touch from the fifth generation onwards, the iPad 2 onwards, and all generations of the iPad Mini. That doesn’t sound too bad to us, but perhaps if your iPhone, iPod or iPad is a bit older than that you might not feel too happy about it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
Our head technician at the St Andrews store is planning on buying one of the new iPhones as soon as it comes out, so we’re pretty sure he’s going to be spending some time playing about with it and finding out what it’s capable of.
