"The Names Have Been Changed to Protect the Innocent"?

OS X becomes MacOS

As you may have heard, the latest version of OS X (10.12 or “Sierra”) is now out. Only, it isn’t called that any more!

One of the most obvious changes isn’t to the OS itself, but to the name. We already knew back in June that Apple were changing the name from “OS X” to “macOS” (note the capitalisation- or rather, lack of it). However, 10.12 Sierra is the first release to use the new name.

Of course, OS X was previously known as “Mac OS X” until Mountain Lion (10.8) and the original (pre Mac OS X) operating system was known as plain “Mac OS” anyway. So are we losing or regaining history? Does it matter?

Apple- as usual- are tight-lipped about their reasons for the change, but it’s generally accepted to be for consistency across their product range.

As far as we’re concerned, it’s a change of name- that’s all. Whether it’s called macOS, OS X or Mac OS X, we can happily repair or reinstall it on your Mac for you, quickly and efficiently!

Aside from the change of name, macOS Sierra includes the usual expected raft of upgrades to make your life easier and more pleasurable. We recommend that you take a look at them!
