iPhone 6 Screen Assembly Replacement Process

Hi again!

This week’s behind-the-scenes peek at a Mac Repair service is the replacement of a broken screen assembly on a relatively new iPhone 6 (4.7″ version). (This particular repair was carried out in our St Andrews store, just beside the West Port).

The screen assembly is essentially a single unit combining the digitizer (touch-sensitive glass) and the LCD screen itself. In some phones and tablets, these can be replaced separately, but they’re bonded together on the iPhone 6, so must be replaced as a single unit.

As always, we show the main steps below, but this isn’t a complete breakdown of the process, and omits one or two clever tricks that we don’t intend letting our would-be rivals pinch!

This iPhone 6 has sustained some rather obvious damage to the screen assembly. We're about the fit a replacement.

The unit has now been opened and we need to remove the old screen assembly.

Good news- the screen appears to be working. Now we have to fit it permanently into place.

Ready! The screen has been fitted and just needs to go through our usual battery of diagnostics before the customer can get it back.
